Quranic Center Launched in Libya’s Sirte with People’s Contribution

IQNA – A center for Quran memorization and teaching Quranic sciences was launched in Sirte, a city in north of Libya.

Top Quran learners honored during inauguration of a Quranic center in Libya’s Sirte

 

The center has been established at the Badr Mosque with the financial contribution of the city’s people.

It was inaugurated in a ceremony on Thursday, attended by the mayor Sirte and a number of religious officials, AL-Wasat news website reported.

During the function, a number of top Quran learners of the city were also honored for their achievement.

Sirte is a Mediterranean coastal city located 450 kilometers east of Libya’s capital of Tripoli.

Libya is a Muslim-majority country in North Africa that has more than a million Quran memorizers.

The country has been in turmoil since a NATO-backed civil war in 2011 overthrew and killed veteran dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Libya has in recent years been split between the government of national unity in Tripoli and an eastern-based administration.

Quranic activities are very common in the country despite years of civil war and clashes among rival groups.
